Understanding Stafford County Releases
A Stafford County release is the recorded end of one custody event. It may return the person to the community, but it can also mark a transfer. The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is the first custodian for a local arrest or detention stay. The district-court case explains the order behind bond, dismissal, sentence, probation, revocation, or discharge. If a Stafford court commits the person to the Kansas Department of Corrections, KASPER becomes the durable state record. Federal and immigration transfers require different locators.
The disposition matters more than a name disappearing from a list. Bond, time served, sentence completion, probation, or dismissal can lead to community release if no other hold controls. Transfer to KDOC, another county, federal authorities, a hospital, or ICE ends Stafford custody but does not prove freedom from custody. Ask for the release date, time, type, and destination. No official Stafford online roster or release feed was found. A third-party disappearance therefore has no reliable county refresh or retention schedule behind it. Direct confirmation is not merely a fallback here. It is the primary local route.
What Stafford Release Records Show
Stafford County does not publish a public online field inventory, so request the fields needed to identify the event without claiming each field must exist. The booking/release sheet links the exit to a specific admission. The court record supplies the legal orders. A narrow request produces a clearer result than asking whether someone is simply “free.”

A release record is not always fully public. Kansas law permits redaction or withholding of protected material. Ask the custodian to state the legal basis for withheld fields and provide the reasonably separable public remainder.
Request a Stafford Release Record

- Request the existing booking/release sheet, recorded release date and time, disposition, destination or hold notation, and booking photo if needed.
- Ask for electronic delivery and state that redaction is acceptable if protected information can be separated.
- Request a cost estimate before work begins. Stafford publishes no fixed booking-sheet or photo price; actual search, review, redaction, and reproduction costs may apply.
- If the record is delayed or denied, ask for the detailed delay explanation or specific legal ground.
Stafford requires a written request, though its attached form is optional. A request received after the policy’s processing cutoff is treated as received the next business day. The County Clerk is a routing fallback, but judicial records belong with the District Court and KDOC release records belong with KDOC.
Kansas Law on Stafford Releases
K.S.A. 45-218 requires action on a records request as soon as possible and by the end of the third business day. “Acted on” is a response rule, not a promise that production will finish then. K.S.A. 45-221 contains exceptions for categories such as protected personal, investigative, security, juvenile, and other nonpublic material.
K.S.A. 22-4705 treats release from detention as a reportable criminal-history event within its scope. Court access follows judicial rules as well as statutes. Sealed, expunged, juvenile, adoption, grand-jury, and other protected matters may be unavailable. K.S.A. 21-6614 restricts disclosure after expungement in the circumstances it covers. A no-result should never be defeated with a cached commercial page.
Find a Released Stafford Inmate
Begin with the last known custodian, not a broad name search. Stafford County does not publish an official jail roster, historical booking search, recent-release tab, or 24-hour or 72-hour release feed. The dependable local starting point is a named-person inquiry to the Sheriff. Ask whether the person remains held. If not, ask for the recorded date, time, disposition, and destination of the last release. Those details separate a return to the community from a handoff to another jail, KDOC, federal authorities, ICE, or a secure placement.
- Call the Stafford County Sheriff at (620) 549-3247 with the full legal name and another identifier, such as a birth date or approximate booking date.
- Request the booking/release sheet when documentary confirmation matters. Ask specifically for the release date and time, disposition, destination, hold notation, and booking number.
- Check the Stafford District Court case for the bond order, dismissal, sentencing journal entry, probation order, revocation, or discharge that explains the legal basis for departure.
- When the disposition says KDOC commitment or transfer, search KASPER by KDOC number if known, then by name and aliases. Read the status, location, movements, sentence fields, and release-related dates together.
- For county-jail notification, check Kansas VINE. For a federal sentence use the BOP locator; for possible immigration custody use ICE’s locator. Each system covers a different custodian.
- If no online result answers the question, return to the office holding the record and make a narrow request for the existing release, court, movement, or discharge document.
A released person normally drops out of a live-custody view. Disappearance alone does not prove release because transfer, data lag, spelling, protected records, or a change of custodian can produce the same result.
KDOC Search for Stafford Releases
The Kansas Adult Supervised Population Electronic Repository, known as KASPER, covers people and cases tied to programs operated or funded by KDOC. It is useful after a Stafford court commits someone to state corrections. It is not a complete Kansas criminal history and usually adds nothing to a short county-jail stay that never entered a KDOC program. KASPER says it updates each working day, so a recent transfer or release may not appear at once.
Search by KDOC number when available because it is more precise than a name. Otherwise use the commitment name, middle name, and aliases, then compare identifiers and case facts. A result can show incarceration, parole, postrelease supervision, absconder information, release, or discharge. “Released” may mean release from prison to supervision. “Discharged” indicates a different and generally later end point. An anticipated release date is a forecast, not proof that the physical release occurred.

KASPER may also display a digital image, conviction and sentence details, facility or parole-office information, conditional-release data, and an Anticipated Guidelines Release Date. The repository warns that its image database date may differ from the date a photograph was taken. Copy the exact field label and date rather than turning a projected date into an actual release claim.
Stafford County Recent Release Search
The official county web offering is contact-centered. No public current roster, recent-release window, release archive, booking-photo feed, documented refresh schedule, or sheriff mobile app was found. The Sheriff’s official social account may carry a dated agency announcement, but it is not an indexed database and has no published retention promise. A commercial page that says it updates daily describes its own service, not Stafford County’s records practice.
For one person, call and then request the booking/release sheet. For a date range, describe the exact calendar dates and ask whether an existing release report can be provided. KORA does not require an agency to create a new custom list merely because a requester asks for one. There is also no published Stafford retention period for an online release view because no official view was located. The agency record, rather than the absence of a name online, is the proper source.
What if no result appears? Recheck the spelling, admission date, aliases, and likely custodian. Then ask the Sheriff, court, or corrections agency for its existing record. No result is not affirmative evidence of release.
Stafford Release Supervision Lookup
Parole, postrelease supervision, probation, and community corrections are not interchangeable. KDOC and the Kansas Prisoner Review Board handle state parole and postrelease matters. A Stafford District Court judge orders probation, while Court Services or Central Kansas Community Corrections may supervise the case. The court docket identifies the order and agency. KASPER can help with KDOC supervision, but it should not override a current court record for local probation.
Stafford County belongs to the five-county 20th Judicial District. Court Services and Central Kansas Community Corrections publish contacts in Great Bend, while local court records remain with the Stafford clerk in St. John. The Hutchinson Parole Office is the KDOC field office assigned to Stafford County. Route the inquiry by supervision type: a state parole question goes to KDOC; a probation order or termination goes to the district court and assigned judicial agency.
Verify Stafford Community Corrections Release
Central Kansas Community Corrections is especially important in Stafford cases because KASPER warns that community-corrections probation events after April 21, 2021 cannot be displayed while its modernization work continues. An older KASPER entry may therefore omit a later placement, violation, termination, or discharge. Verify a release to community corrections against the Stafford court case and the Great Bend agency instead of treating a stale repository view as current.
A community-corrections placement is a court-ordered status in the community, not parole and not a jail release archive. The Sheriff record establishes when local physical custody ended. The journal entry and probation documents show why supervision began. The assigned agency confirms its own current status within lawful disclosure limits. Keeping those three records distinct prevents a county release date from being mistaken for the end of the sentence.
Stafford Release Alerts and Locators
Kansas VINE through VINELink searches specific adults reported in participating Kansas county jails and can offer custody-change notices by phone, text, email, or TTY. It expressly excludes KDOC prison offenders. Select the correct person, confirm the reporting agency and identifying details, then read the exact custody wording and status date. A “release” alert is a signal to check the source record, not a certified release sheet. Transfers, escapes, returns to custody, and releases are different events.
KDOC Victim Services runs a separate notification process for eligible state-corrections events. It does not replace VINE for someone held only in a county jail, and it is not the channel for ordinary district-court probation without KDOC supervision. Choose the notification system by custodian, then confirm the event through the Stafford release sheet or KDOC movement and release record.
Federal custody has two more paths. The Bureau of Prisons locator can show “Released” and a date for many former federal prisoners, but that status only means the person is no longer in BOP custody. It does not prove that federal supervised release ended or rule out state, local, or immigration custody. The federal judgment and docket supply the supervision term. Correct a Stafford Release Record
Send a correction to the custodian that created the disputed fact. KASPER publishes the email address kdoc_pub@ks.gov for written correction requests involving its state repository. A local booking or release-sheet error belongs with the Stafford County Sheriff or county records custodian. A mistaken judgment, probation entry, or court disposition belongs with the District Court clerk and the court process. KDOC cannot rewrite a county booking, and the Sheriff cannot alter a signed court judgment.
Include enough detail to identify the record and state the claimed error clearly. Keep source labels intact when discussing images. KASPER warns that a displayed image’s database date may differ from its actual capture date, so that date should not be described as the booking or release date without separate proof.
Search Stafford Court Release Orders
Stafford criminal cases are part of the 20th Judicial District. Statewide electronic case information is available through the Kansas District Court Public Access Portal, but remote document access depends on eCourt timing, Kansas Supreme Court Rule 22, and legal restrictions. A public courthouse terminal can reveal accessible material that is not available through a remote search.
